Woodworking

Woodworking is a part of the curriculum at Butterfly Garden Preschool. My father, a Master Carpenter, comes to the school to instruct children in the basic fundamentals of woodworking: safety, sanding, hammering, measuring, screwing, gluing, etc.

Woodworking helps to improve children's literacy, fine and gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, logical thinking, spatial skills, concentration, coordination, sequencing, task completion and independence. These activities provide students new ways of creative expression. As children make decisions about the design, shape, and type of wood to use, they practice problem-solving skills. Children also practice social skills when they work together to create woodworking projects.
