Our study of planets has sparked interest in volcanoes. Many of the children have been asking about the volcanoes on Venus and Mars. This month we will focus on volcanoes. In order to understand volcanoes children must first learn about the earth's composition (crust, mantle, outer core, inner core). We will do a simulation of a volcano erupting.
Towards the middle of the month we will be studying pumpkins and the life cycle of a pumpkin. The children will get a chance to carve pumpkins too. This activity will allow children to practice their predicting, estimating, measuring, counting, and graphing skills.
Everyone is welcome to join us on our first family field trip to Edwards Air Force Base on Sun. Oct. 23rd. They are having an open house and an air show. Bring your lawn chairs, sunscreen, camera, and picnic lunch (concession will also be available). Please let me know if you are planning on attending. I will make sure to give you directions and further details on where to meet.
At the end of the month we will make pumpkin and/or zucchini bread.
Group games that we are going to play y this month include: duck, duck, goose, musical chairs, and parachute games.
We will continue practicing our fire and earthquake drills. Part of our safety talks this month will also include being safe while trick or treating on Halloween.
Our language development during circle time and throughout the day includes rhyming (through songs, poetry, and games,), name recognition, phonemic awareness (rhymes, poetry, songs, and games.).
